BOH Tea Plantation
Immerse yourself in Malaysia's tea heritage at the iconic BOH Tea Plantation. Explore vast, verdant slopes carpeted with tea bushes, offering breathtaking panoramic views. Witness the tea-making process at the factory, or sip a cup of freshly brewed BOH tea overlooking the scenic landscape. BOH Tea Plantation is a must-visit for nature lovers and a quintessential Cameron Highlands experience.

The BOH Tea Plantation, specifically the Sungai Palas Tea Centre, is situated approximately 8 km northwest of Century Pines Resort in Cameron Highlands, Pahang. To reach the plantation, head northwest on Jalan Tengkolok (Main Road) towards Jalan Gunung Brinchang. Follow the winding road uphill for about 15–20 minutes, passing through Kampung Raja and Brinchang town. Look for signposts directing you to the plantation, accessible via a narrow, scenic route flanked by lush greenery. Visitors are advised to drive cautiously due to steep inclines and limited parking, especially during peak hours.
As Malaysia’s largest tea producer, BOH Plantation spans over 1,200 hectares of rolling hills draped in vibrant green tea bushes. The Sungai Palas Tea Centre, perched at an elevation of 1,500 metres, offers panoramic views of terraced fields shrouded in mist. The site features a modern visitor centre with a glass-walled café, a viewing platform, and guided tours explaining tea cultivation and processing. The plantation’s cool climate (15–24°C) and serene ambience make it a refreshing escape.
Entry to the plantation is free. However, guided factory tours (subject to availability) are complimentary but may require advance booking. The BOH Tea Centre operates from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM daily, except Mondays, when it closes for maintenance. The last entry is 30 minutes before closing. The café serves tea-based beverages and snacks, with prices ranging from RM5 to RM20 (£0.80–£3.20).
Established in 1929 by British businessman J.A. Russell, BOH (Best of Highlands) pioneered Malaysia’s tea industry. Despite challenges during World War II, the plantation expanded, introducing innovative techniques like contour planting to prevent soil erosion. Today, it remains family-owned, producing 4 million kg of tea annually and symbolising Cameron Highlands’ colonial agricultural legacy.
The plantation’s crown jewel is its sweeping vistas, ideal for photography. The café’s signature Boh Tea paired with freshly baked scones is a must-try. Visitors can observe tea-picking (typically mornings) or explore the factory to witness withering, rolling, and oxidation processes. The elevated walkway and infinity-style viewing platform provide unobstructed views of the valley, often enveloped in ethereal mist.
BOH Tea Plantation offers a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and educational insight. It appeals to nature enthusiasts, history buffs, and families seeking a tranquil retreat. The immersive experience of sipping locally grown tea amidst cloud-kissed hills is unparalleled. Practical tips: Visit on weekdays for fewer crowds, wear comfortable shoes for uneven terrain, and arrive early to secure parking.
This attraction encapsulates Cameron Highlands’ charm, making it an essential stop for travellers exploring Malaysia’s highland treasures.
