Thompson Falls is situated approximately 2 km northwest of Tanah Rata, the administrative centre of Cameron Highlands, Pahang. Nestled within a lush rainforest valley near the Sultan Ahmad Shah Environmental Park, it is easily accessible from the town centre.


From Century Pines Resort on Jalan Kampar, head northwest toward Jalan Besar (Main Road). Turn left onto Jalan Besar, then continue straight for 1 km. Turn right onto Jalan Kelawai, followed by a left onto Jalan Air Terjun (signposted for Thompson Falls). Follow this road for 500 metres until you reach a small car park. The falls are a short 5-minute walk downhill from here. The total journey is roughly 5 minutes by car or 30 minutes on foot.


Thompson Falls is a picturesque 20-metre waterfall cascading over moss-covered rocks into a serene pool below. Surrounded by dense rainforest and tea plantations, the site offers a tranquil escape with cooling mists and vibrant greenery. A steep, uneven trail leads to the base of the falls, though caution is advised during wet weather. The area is popular for photography, nature walks, and birdwatching.


Entry to Thompson Falls is free of charge, though donations for maintenance are occasionally encouraged by local caretakers.


The falls are accessible daily from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with visits recommended during daylight for safety. The trail may close temporarily during heavy rain due to slippery conditions.


Named during the British colonial era, the falls likely honour a local dignitary or planter from the 1920s, when Cameron Highlands was developed as a hill station. While its exact origins are unclear, the falls have long been a natural highlight for residents and visitors seeking respite from Malaysia’s lowland heat.
