Situated in the heart of Tanah Rata, the administrative and commercial centre of Cameron Highlands, the Majlis Daerah Cameron Highlands (MDCH) Public Field is easily accessible. From Century Pines Resort, head southeast towards Jalan Perdah. Turn left onto Jalan Besar (Main Road) and continue for approximately 500 metres. The field is on your right, adjacent to the MDCH office and opposite the iconic Masjid Tanah Rata. The walk takes 5–10 minutes; taxis or ride-hailing services are also available for a 2–3 minute journey.
This sprawling public field serves as a multipurpose recreational space amidst Cameron Highlands’ cool climate and lush landscapes. Surrounded by rolling hills and tea plantations, it features a well-maintained grassy area ideal for sports, picnics, and leisurely strolls. A distinctive white clock tower, erected in 1935 to commemorate King George VI’s coronation, stands as a historical centrepiece. The field includes a walking track, basic playground equipment, and benches, offering a serene escape within the town.
The field is open 24 hours daily, though visitors are advised to explore during daylight for optimal safety and visibility. Evening visits are possible, but lighting is limited. Entry is free, making it a budget-friendly attraction. Parking along adjacent roads is free but can be limited during peak times or events.
Established in the 1930s during British colonial rule, the field was a social hub for administrators and residents. The clock tower, added in 1935, symbolises the region’s colonial heritage. Over decades, it has evolved into a venue for community gatherings, national celebrations, and cultural festivals, including the annual Cameron Highlands Flora Festival.
Scenic Views: Framed by misty mountains and verdant valleys, the field offers picturesque backdrops for photography.
Historical Clock Tower: A nod to the area’s colonial past, this structure is a popular photo spot.
Community Events: The space hosts markets, sports tournaments, and festivals, reflecting local culture.
Central Accessibility: Proximity to Tanah Rata’s eateries, shops, and attractions like the Sam Poh Buddhist Temple enhances its appeal.
The MDCH Public Field provides a tranquil, family-friendly environment to unwind amid nature without venturing far from town. Its historical significance, coupled with opportunities for recreation and cultural immersion, makes it a versatile stop. Whether enjoying a quiet picnic, joining a local event, or capturing the Highland’s beauty, the field encapsulates Cameron Highlands’ charm, blending heritage with natural splendour. Ideal for travellers seeking an authentic, low-cost experience, it remains a cherished landmark for residents and visitors alike.
